Unable to load OfficePluginRes.dll

Haven't seen much of solutions on the net about this, so here's my own workaround.

There are some "addins" that are used by all office programs, and apparently the contribute plugin somehow got broken on my system.

The error while starting any of the office programs might look something like this:
"Unable to load OfficePluginRes.dll. Contribute may not be installed properly."

The fix is to disable the loading of this addin by simply doing the following:
1. Run regedit
2. Go to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office\
3. Pick your program where the error occurs (in my case Outlook)
4. Open: Adobe.Contribute.OfficePlugin
5. The DWORD value "LoadBehavior" should be set on 3. Change it to 0.

This should be a quick fix to get rid of that nasty message.

I searched my registry and could not find officepluginres.dll. Hence, I uninstalled Contribute and then reinstalled it. Then, all of the messages disappeared. I am using Microsoft Office 2007 and Contribute CS4.

For some reason mine wasnt in that directory but there was another directory located deeper in the Regedit! HKEY_LOCAL_MAHCINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\Office

This is probably because I am running x64 and it install the x86 version of Office. Still this helped me sort my problem out! Many thanks!

I am Win8 x64 & Office 2010 with CS4 and had to goto the

HKEY_LOCAL_MAHCINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\Office\Addins

and that worked

Win 10 x 64 office 2007
and i had to change every single one for Word, Exel, etc. under HKEY_LOCAL_MAHCINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\Office\Addins

that works and thanks a million!

You can also disable the addin within outlook. File>Options>AddIns. At the bottom there shoudl be a "Manage: Comm-Ins", click "Go". Uncheck "Adobe Contribute Plugin". If you need it the plugin then reinstall the plugin/addin.

dripcode said...

Not Comm-Ins, but Com Add-Ins. :) sorry about the typo

I realise this is an old post and that it was originally posted for a fix for older versions for Office however I wanted to jump online and say thank you as this fixed the error message when I had this issue on Microsoft Office 2016. I simply had to go into each of the programs it affected. So the fix was therefore as below;

The fix is to disable the loading of this addin by simply doing the following:
1. Run regedit
2. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\Office\Addins

3. Pick your program where the error occurs (in my case Outlook)
4. Open: Adobe.Contribute.OfficePlugin
5. The DWORD value "LoadBehavior" should be set on 3. Change it to 0.

I also was able to find the 'loadbehavior' entry at Wow6432Node and once I'd fixed the values to zero all was well. Many thanks!!
